The Armada has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Yukon doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The Armada has standard parking sensors to help warn the driver about vehicles, pedestrians or other obstacles behind or, for the Armada Platinum in front of the vehicle. The Yukon doesn’t offer a front parking aid.

Both the Armada and the Yukon have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and available all-wheel drive.

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the Armada has an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the engines in the Yukon.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Armada has a standard 650-amp battery (710 SL/Platinum). The Yukon’s 600-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2011 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than GMC vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Nissan 25th in reliability. With 1 more problems per 100 vehicles, GMC is ranked 26th.

The Armada has 3.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the Yukon Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (28 vs. 24.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Armada has 2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Yukon’s standard fuel tank (28 vs. 26 gallons).

For superior ride and handling, the Nissan Armada has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The GMC Yukon has a solid rear axle, with a non-independent rear suspension.

The Armada has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The Yukon’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The Armada has engine speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Yukon doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Armada’s wheelbase is 7.2 inches longer than on the Yukon (123.2 inches vs. 116 inches).

The Armada SL handles at .73 G’s, while the Yukon Denali 4x4 pulls only .72 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Armada SL 4x4 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.7 seconds quicker than the Yukon Hybrid (28.8 seconds @ .57 average G’s vs. 30.5 seconds @ .52 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Armada has a 1.4 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Yukon (10.4 vs. 9 inches), allowing the Armada to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Armada’s front power windows open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Yukon’s power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully. Only its driver’s window opens automatically.

If the windows are left down on the Armada the driver can raise them all using the key in the outside lock cylinder. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from outside the vehicle using the key in the outside lock cylinder or the keyless remote. The driver of the Yukon can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Intelligent Key standard on the Armada SL/Platinum allows the driver to unlock the doors, cargo door and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the car in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The GMC Yukon doesn’t offer an advanced key system.

The Armada’s speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The Yukon’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

To better shield the driver and front passenger’s vision, the Armada SL/Platinum has standard dual-element sun visors that can block glare from two directions simultaneously. The Yukon doesn’t offer secondary sun visors.

The Armada’s standard automatic temperature control maintains the temperature you set, automatically controlling fan speed, vents and temperature to maintain a consistent, comfortable environment. The Yukon w/Front Bench Seat doesn’t offer automatic air conditioning.

A built-in pollen filter removes pollen, exhaust fumes and other pollutants from the Armada Platinum’s passenger compartment. This helps prevent lung and/or sinus irritation, which can trigger allergies or asthma. The Yukon doesn’t offer a filtration system.
