For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Nissan Murano are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Audi Q5 has only front height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the Murano and the Q5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and available all-wheel drive.

Nissan’s powertrain warranty covers the Murano 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Audi covers the Q5. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Q5 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 4 times as many Nissan dealers as there are Audi dealers, which makes it much easier to get service under the Murano’s warranty.

The camshafts in the Murano’s engine are driven by a hardened steel chain, with no maintenance needs. The Q5 2.0T 2.0 turbo 4 cyl.’s camshafts are driven by a rubber belt that needs periodic replacement. If the Q5’s cam drive belt breaks the engine could be severely damaged when the pistons hit the opened valves.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without their vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports predicts that the Murano’s reliability will be 47% better than the Q5.

The Murano SL/LE’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Q5 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

On a hot day the Murano’s driver can lower the front windows using the key in the outside lock cylinder or the keyless remote. The driver of the Q5 can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Murano has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the Q5 only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

Both the Murano and the Q5 offer available heated front seats. The Murano LE also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Q5.

To help keep rear passengers entertained, the Murano (except S/SV) offers optional rear seat controls for the radio. The Q5 doesn’t offer rear seat audio controls.
