The Armada has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Sequoia doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.
The Armada (except SV) offers optional Forward Emergency Braking, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The Sequoia doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.
Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Armada (except SV) offers optional Backup Collision Intervention which use rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Sequoia doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.
Full-time four-wheel drive is optional on the Armada. Full-time four-wheel drive gives added traction for safety in all conditions, not just off-road, like the only system available on the Sequoia.
The Armada Platinum’s lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. The Sequoia doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.
The Armada SL/Platinum has a standard Around View Monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Sequoia only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.
Both the Armada and the Sequoia have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and available blind spot warning systems.
The Armada’s 5.6 DOHC V8 produces 9 more horsepower (390 vs. 381) than the Sequoia’s 5.7 DOHC V8.
The Nissan Armada’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Toyota Sequoia only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.
The rear suspension of the Armada uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Sequoia, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.
The Armada has 6.1 inches more front headroom, 5.1 inches more rear headroom and 1.9 inches more third row headroom than the Sequoia.
The Armada has a standard third row seat which folds flat into the floor. This completely clears a very large cargo area quickly. The Sequoia doesn’t offer seats that fold into the floor.
Intelligent Key standard on the Armada allows you to unlock the driver’s door, cargo door and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Toyota Sequoia doesn’t offer an advanced key system.
The Armada SV’s standard speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The Sequoia’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted. The Armada SL/Platinum’s standard wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically according to the amount of rainfall on the windshield.
On extremely cold Winter days, the Armada Platinum’s standard heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the vehicle heater warms up. The Sequoia doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.
