Safety Comparison

The Armada has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Escalade ESV doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the Armada and the Escalade ESV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all-wheel drive, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

Reliability Comparison

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the Armada has an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the engine in the Escalade ESV.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2016 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Nissan 10th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 11 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is ranked 16th, below the industry average.

Fuel Economy and Range Comparison

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Nissan Armada uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Escalade ESV requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

Suspension and Handling Comparison

For superior ride and handling, the Nissan Armada has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Cadillac Escalade ESV has a solid rear axle, with a non-independent rear suspension.

The rear suspension of the Armada uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Escalade ESV, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

For better maneuverability, the Armada’s turning circle is 1.7 feet tighter than the Escalade ESV’s (41.3 feet vs. 43 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Armada has a 1.2 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Escalade ESV (9.2 vs. 8 inches), allowing the Armada to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis Comparison

The Armada is 1 foot, 3.4 inches shorter than the Escalade ESV, making the Armada easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Cargo Capacity Comparison

The Armada has a standard third row seat which folds flat into the floor. This completely clears a very large cargo area quickly. The Escalade ESV doesn’t offer seats that fold into the floor.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Armada. The Escalade ESV doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Economic Advantages Comparison

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Armada is less expensive to operate than the Escalade ESV because it costs $198 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Armada than the Escalade ESV, including $228 less for a water pump, $473 less for an alternator, $119 less for front brake pads, $28 less for a starter, $1 less for fuel injection, $149 less for a fuel pump and $1108 less for a power steering pump.
