The Pathfinder Platinum has standard Forward Emergency Braking, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The Acadia Limited has a collision warning system without the crash-mitigating brake feature that could reduce stopping distances.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Pathfinder 4WD’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Acadia Limited doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

The Pathfinder SL/Platinum has a standard Around View® Monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Acadia Limited only offers a rear monitor and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the front or sides.

Both the Pathfinder and the Acadia Limited have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front-wheel drive, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all-wheel drive, blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Nissan Pathfinder is safer than the GMC Acadia Limited:

For its top level performance in all IIHS frontal, side, rear impact and roof-crush tests, and with its optional front crash prevention system, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Pathfinder the rating of “Top Pick” for 2017, a rating granted to only 107 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Acadia Limited has not been tested, yet.

When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Acadia Limited doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Nissan Pathfinder may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 200 to 350 pounds less than the GMC Acadia Limited.

The design of the Nissan Pathfinder amounts to more than styling. The Pathfinder has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .326 Cd. That is significantly lower than the Acadia Limited (.361) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Pathfinder get better fuel mileage.

The Pathfinder has 1.9 inches more front headroom, 1 inch more front legroom and 4.9 inches more rear legroom than the Acadia Limited.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Pathfinder’s middle and third row seats recline. The Acadia Limited’s third row seats don’t recline.

The Pathfinder has a standard third row seat which folds flat into the floor. This completely clears a very large cargo area quickly. The Acadia Limited doesn’t offer seats that fold into the floor.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Pathfinder SL/Platinum’s cargo door can be opened just by waving your foot, leaving your hands completely free. The Acadia Limited doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its cargo door, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The Pathfinder SV/SL/Platinum’s front power windows both open or close with one touch of the switches. The Acadia Limited ’s front passenger window doesn’t close automatically.

If the front windows are left down on the Pathfinder the driver can raise them using the key in the outside lock cylinder. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from outside the vehicle using the key in the outside lock cylinder or the keyless remote. The driver of the Acadia Limited can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Push Button Ignition standard on the Pathfinder allows you to start the engine without removing a key from pocket or purse (Pathfinder SV/SL/Platinum’s Intelligent Key will also allow unlocking the driver’s door and cargo door without taking your keys out). The GMC Acadia Limited doesn’t offer an advanced key system.

The Pathfinder has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and fuel theft. The Acadia Limited doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

The Pathfinder SV/SL/Platinum’s standard wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The Acadia Limited’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Pathfinder has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the Acadia Limited only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

When the Pathfinder SL/Platinum is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Acadia Limited’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

Both the Pathfinder and the Acadia Limited offer available heated front seats. The Pathfinder SL/Platinum also has standard heated second row seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated second row seats aren’t available in the Acadia Limited.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the Pathfinder Platinum keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Acadia Limited doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

A built-in pollen filter removes pollen, exhaust fumes and other pollutants from the Pathfinder’s passenger compartment. This helps prevent lung and/or sinus irritation, which can trigger allergies or asthma. The Acadia Limited doesn’t offer a filtration system.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the Pathfinder Platinum has a standard Intelligent Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Acadia Limited doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.
