Safety Comparison

Both the 370Z and the Mustang have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and available rearview cameras.

Reliability Comparison

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2016 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Ford vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Nissan 27th in reliability. With 31 more problems per 100 vehicles, Ford is ranked 31st.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ April 2017 Auto Issue reports that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Ford vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Nissan 5 places higher in reliability than Ford.

Engine Comparison

The 370Z’s standard 3.7 DOHC V6 produces 22 more horsepower (332 vs. 310) than the Mustang’s standard 2.3 turbo 4 cyl.

Fuel Economy and Range Comparison

The 370Z has 3.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the Mustang EcoBoost’s standard fuel tank (19 vs. 15.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The 370Z has 3 gallons more fuel capacity than the Mustang GT’s standard fuel tank (19 vs. 16 gallons).

Tires and Wheels Comparison

For better traction and acceleration, the 370Z has larger standard rear tires than the Mustang (245/45R18 vs. 235/55R17). The 370Z NISMO Coupe’s rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the Mustang (285/35R19 vs. 265/35R20).

The 370Z’s standard 225/50R18 front and 245/45R18 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series front and 45 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Mustang’s standard 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the 370Z has standard 18-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Mustang.

Chassis Comparison

The 370Z is 1 foot, 9 inches shorter than the Mustang, making the 370Z easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Ergonomics Comparison

The 370Z has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and fuel theft. The Mustang doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.
