The Kicks has standard Automatic Emergency Braking, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The HR-V doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.
The Kicks SR has a standard Around View® Monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The HR-V only offers a rear monitor.
To help make backing safer, the Kicks SV/SR’s cross-path warning system uses wide-angle radar in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The HR-V doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.
Both the Kicks and the HR-V have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, rearview cameras and available blind spot warning systems.
J.D. Power and Associates’ 2017 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are better in initial quality than Honda vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Nissan 10th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 12 more problems per 100 vehicles, Honda is ranked 20th, below the industry average.

On the EPA test cycle the Kicks gets better fuel mileage than the HR-V FWD Auto (31 city/36 hwy vs. 28 city/34 hwy). The Kicks gets better fuel mileage than the HR-V FWD Manual (31 city/36 hwy vs. 25 city/33 hwy).
The Kicks SV/SR has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The HR-V doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.
The Kicks has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Kicks flat and controlled during cornering. The HR-V 4x2 suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.
For better maneuverability, the Kicks’ turning circle is 3.3 feet tighter than the HR-V’s (34.1 feet vs. 37.4 feet).
The Nissan Kicks may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 450 pounds less than the Honda HR-V.
To almost totally eliminate engine vibration in the passenger area, the Kicks has a liquid-filled front engine mount. The liquid helps further dampen engine harshness. The HR-V uses conventional solid rubber engine mounts.
The Kicks has 1.2 inches more front headroom, 2.5 inches more front legroom, .2 inches more rear headroom and 1.7 inches more rear hip room than the HR-V.
The Kicks has a larger cargo area than the HR-V with its rear seat up (25.3 vs. 24.3 cubic feet).
The Kicks SV/SR has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The HR-V doesn’t offer a remote starting system.
The Kicks’ front power windows open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The HR-V’s passenger windows don’t open or close automatically.
The Kicks’ variable intermittent wipers have an adjustable delay to allow the driver to choose a setting that best clears the windshield during light rain or mist. The HR-V LX/EX’s standard fixed intermittent wipers only have one fixed delay setting, so the driver will have to manually switch them between slow and intermittent.
The Kicks has a standard automatic headlight on/off feature. When the ignition is on, the headlights automatically turn on at dusk and off after dawn. The HR-V has an automatic headlight on/off feature standard only on the EX/EX-L.
